Hazardous Copper Beryllium Alloy

Beryllium causes a disease known as Chronic Beryllium Disease (CBD), 

Chronic beryllium disease (CBD) primarily affects the lungs & skin. It was a known fact that CBD can occur among people who are exposed to the dust or fumes from beryllium metal, metal oxides, alloys, ceramics, or salts. However, there was a believe that solid Copper Beryllium is harmless and poses no risks.


Some of the latest research published in leading medical journals have proved that even handling of solid Copper Beryllium is dangerous and can cause Cancer. CBD usually has a very slow onset, and even very small amounts of exposure to beryllium can cause the disease in some people.

  • OSHA has tightened the 1948 standard of 2ug/m3 exposure to Beryllium to 0.2 ug/m3 - Reduction of 90%

  • Global electronic manufacturers have banned the use of Copper Beryllium in their products.

  • India Environmental and Forest Act mandates that any material with Beryllium more than 50 mg /kg should be treated as hazardous waste. Commonly used Copper Beryllium has 20g/kg of alloy - 400 times more than the prescribed limit.
