Non Sparking Square Shovel & Spade by Pahwa MetalTech

Non-Sparking Shovels for Safe Material Handling at Explosive Sites

Pahwa MetalTech's Non Sparking Square Shovel & Spade is precision-engineered for reliable, spark-free performance in the most demanding hazardous environments. Compliant with ATEX, EN, and IS standards, these tools eliminate ignition risk in oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, mining, and explosives industries. Every tool is quality-inspected for dimensional accuracy, alloy integrity, and functional performance before delivery, ensuring Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 classified area compliance throughout service life.

Non Sparking Square Shovel & Spade

Material :

Pahwa MetalTech's Non Sparking Square Shovel & Spade is available in two premium non-sparking alloys: QTi® (Copper Titanium) and BronAL® (Aluminium Bronze).

QTi® offers superior hardness and tensile strength for heavy-duty applications, with a longer service life than conventional beryllium copper.

BronAL® delivers excellent corrosion resistance, ideal for marine, chemical, and humid environments. Both alloys comply with ATEX, EN, and IS non-sparking tool certifications and are non-magnetic, ensuring safety in Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 classified areas. Material test reports and special certifications are available on request.

Size and Range :

Pahwa MetalTech offers the Non Sparking Square Shovel & Spade in the following specifications: Square and round head in 150mm, 200mm, 250mm sizes.

The range covers the most common operational requirements for hazardous area maintenance.

All sizes are manufactured to precise tolerances for reliable fit and performance. Custom sizes and configurations beyond the standard range are available on request for specific site requirements or OEM applications. Contact Pahwa MetalTech for custom configuration enquiries.

Applications :

Pahwa MetalTech's Non Sparking Square Shovel & Spade is used across critical hazardous industries.

Explosives manufacturing, ammunition depots, mining operations with gas and dust explosion risk, chemical spill containment, pharmaceutical powder handling, and classified zones where bulk granular, powdered, or solid materials must be moved or cleared safely.

In all these applications, QTi® and BronAL® non-sparking alloys eliminate ignition risk from tool-to-surface contact, protecting personnel, equipment, and facilities. These tools help operations teams comply with OISD, PESO, ATEX, and other international safety frameworks governing classified zones.

Do's

  • Choose the square head for flat compacted material and the round head for loose granular material and digging.
  • Position the feet shoulder-width apart and keep the back straight — use leg and body weight rather than back muscles.
  • For explosive and chemical material handling, scoop only as much as the site SOP allows per handling operation.
  • Decontaminate the shovel head after each use in sensitive chemical or explosive areas per the approved procedure.
  • Use the correct size for the task — a 150 mm head for narrow trenches, a 250 mm head for open-area clearing.
  • Inspect the blade-to-handle joint before each use — handle looseness in a shovel used on heavy material is dangerous.
  • When clearing spilled chemical powders, work upwind and use the shovel blade as a barrier between you and the pile.
  • After use in wet chemical environments, rinse and dry the shovel blade before storage to prevent accelerated corrosion.

Donts

  • Never use a standard steel shovel for clearing or handling explosive granules, powders, or classified material.
  • Do not use the shovel blade to strike containers, drums, or hard surfaces — the resulting deformation makes the blade unsafe.
  • Avoid overfilling the shovel blade beyond its carrying capacity — overloaded loads shift and spill onto sensitive areas.
  • Do not use the shovel handle as a lever or pry bar — handle failure during levering sends the blade uncontrollably.
  • Never use the round head for flat surface scraping — only the square head should be used for surface material recovery.
  • Do not use the shovel in a chopping motion on hard compacted ground — use a non-sparking pick instead.
  • Avoid using a shovel with a loose or split handle in any explosive or classified zone — retightening is not sufficient.
  • Do not use the same shovel for incompatible chemical materials without full decontamination and inspection between uses.
