Non Sparking Parallel Shank Drill Bit (Stub Series) by Pahwa MetalTech

Non-Sparking Drill Bits for Precision Drilling in Explosive Environments

Pahwa MetalTech's Non Sparking Parallel Shank Drill Bit (Stub Series) is precision-engineered for reliable, spark-free performance in the most demanding hazardous environments. Compliant with ATEX, EN, and IS standards, these tools eliminate ignition risk in oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, mining, and explosives industries. Every tool is quality-inspected for dimensional accuracy, alloy integrity, and functional performance before delivery, ensuring Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 classified area compliance throughout service life.

Non Sparking Parallel Shank Drill Bit (Stub Series)

Material :

Pahwa MetalTech manufactures the Non Sparking Parallel Shank Drill Bit (Stub Series) exclusively in QTi® (Copper Titanium), a superior non-sparking alloy providing exceptional hardness, tensile strength, and edge retention well beyond conventional beryllium copper.

QTi® tools fully comply with ATEX, EN, and IS standards and are certified for Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 hazardous areas.

Non-magnetic and non-toxic in manufacture, QTi® delivers outstanding corrosion and fatigue resistance, making it the preferred choice for demanding applications in petrochemical plants, oil refineries, and explosives facilities.

Size and Range :

Pahwa MetalTech offers the Non Sparking Parallel Shank Drill Bit (Stub Series) in the following specifications: 2mm to 32mm diameter, stub series parallel shank.

The range covers the most common operational requirements for hazardous area maintenance.

All sizes are manufactured to precise tolerances for reliable fit and performance. Custom sizes and configurations beyond the standard range are available on request for specific site requirements or OEM applications. Contact Pahwa MetalTech for custom configuration enquiries.

Applications :

Pahwa MetalTech's Non Sparking Parallel Shank Drill Bit (Stub Series) is used across critical hazardous industries.

Oil and gas maintenance machining, petrochemical plant equipment repair, explosives manufacturing toolrooms, mining equipment maintenance, offshore repair, and classified zones requiring drilling of non-ferrous metals, composites, or plastics without spark generation.

In all these applications, QTi® and BronAL® non-sparking alloys eliminate ignition risk from tool-to-surface contact, protecting personnel, equipment, and facilities. These tools help operations teams comply with OISD, PESO, ATEX, and other international safety frameworks governing classified zones.

Do's

  • Confirm the drill chuck is clean and grips the parallel shank fully on all three jaws before beginning drilling.
  • Centre-punch the drill start point with a non-sparking centre punch before beginning to prevent the bit from wandering.
  • Use cutting fluid compatible with the workpiece material to reduce heat and improve chip evacuation during drilling.
  • Drill at a consistent speed — too fast burns the bit tip
  • too slow work-hardens the material and blunts the bit.
  • Withdraw the bit periodically during deep holes to clear chips from the flutes and prevent chip jamming.
  • Confirm the drill direction rotation is correct before touching the workpiece — reversed rotation blunts the bit instantly.
  • Keep the bit perpendicular to the work surface — angular drilling produces oval holes and excessive bit wear.
  • Inspect the cutting edges under magnification when bit performance drops — replace at first sign of chipping.

Donts

  • Never use a standard HSS or cobalt drill bit in any classified or explosive zone — ferrous bits create spark showers.
  • Do not use QTi® drill bits on hardened steel or ferrous alloys — they are rated for non-ferrous metals only.
  • Avoid applying excessive downward pressure to force a blunt drill bit through the material — replace the bit first.
  • Do not use a drill bit with a damaged or chipped cutting edge — the resultant irregular cut generates vibration and heat.
  • Never hold the workpiece by hand while drilling — always clamp it securely to prevent rotation on bit breakthrough.
  • Do not use the drill bits in a spark-producing ferrous metal drill press without confirming the spindle is also non-sparking.
  • Avoid using bits outside their rated diameter range — undersize chucks increase runout, and oversize chucks crush the shank.
  • Do not store drill bits with tips touching adjacent tools — cutting edge damage in storage leads to early blunting in use.
