Non Sparking Hook Spanners by Pahwa MetalTech
Round Nut and Lock Ring Removal Without Spark Risk in Classified Zones
Pahwa MetalTech's Non Sparking Hook Spanners is precision-engineered for reliable, spark-free performance in the most demanding hazardous environments. Compliant with ATEX, EN, and IS standards, these tools eliminate ignition risk in oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, mining, and explosives industries. Every tool is quality-inspected for dimensional accuracy, alloy integrity, and functional performance before delivery, ensuring Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 classified area compliance throughout service life.
Material :
Pahwa MetalTech's Non Sparking Hook Spanners is available in two premium non-sparking alloys: QTi® (Copper Titanium) and BronAL® (Aluminium Bronze).
QTi® offers superior hardness and tensile strength for heavy-duty applications, with a longer service life than conventional beryllium copper.
BronAL® delivers excellent corrosion resistance, ideal for marine, chemical, and humid environments. Both alloys comply with ATEX, EN, and IS non-sparking tool certifications and are non-magnetic, ensuring safety in Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 classified areas. Material test reports and special certifications are available on request.
Size and Range :
Pahwa MetalTech offers the Non Sparking Hook Spanners in the following specifications: 30mm to 145mm in various single and combination hook configurations.
The range covers the most common operational requirements for hazardous area maintenance.
All sizes are manufactured to precise tolerances for reliable fit and performance. Custom sizes and configurations beyond the standard range are available on request for specific site requirements or OEM applications. Contact Pahwa MetalTech for custom configuration enquiries.
Applications :
Pahwa MetalTech's Non Sparking Hook Spanners is used across critical hazardous industries.
Petrochemical rotating equipment maintenance, oil refinery pump and compressor overhaul, offshore turbine maintenance, lathe maintenance in explosive areas, and classified zones where round nuts, lock rings, and gland follower nuts must be safely operated.
In all these applications, QTi® and BronAL® non-sparking alloys eliminate ignition risk from tool-to-surface contact, protecting personnel, equipment, and facilities. These tools help operations teams comply with OISD, PESO, ATEX, and other international safety frameworks governing classified zones.

Do's
- Select the hook spanner size so the hook tooth engages fully in the slot of the round nut — partial engagement slips.
- Apply force in the tightening direction of the round nut thread — confirm thread direction before applying load.
- Use a backing spanner on the shaft nut when loosening a lock ring to prevent shaft rotation.
- For double-hook combination spanners, confirm which hook size matches the nut before applying force.
- Wrap the hook spanner handle with non-conductive material for instrumentation work in electrical classified areas.
- Protect the round nut face with a soft backing if it is a precision-ground surface that must not be scratched.
- After use in gearbox or lubricant-contaminated environments, degrease the hook tooth before storage.
- Check the hook tooth tip for chipping or deformation — a chipped tip slips out of the nut slot under load.
Donts
- Never use a punch and hammer to tighten or loosen round nuts in lieu of the correct hook spanner — the nut will be damaged.
- Do not use a hook spanner whose hook tooth is too small for the nut slot — it will jump out under any applied load.
- Avoid using an extension pipe on the hook spanner handle — the concentrated load bends the spanner arm.
- Do not use hook spanners on non-standard round nuts without confirming slot depth and engagement before full force.
- Never apply a hook spanner to a spinning or rotating component — always ensure the shaft is locked before use.
- Do not use a hook spanner to apply torque on a gland nut that is already leaking — address the seal failure first.
- Avoid using the hook spanner as a pry bar to separate components — it is a rotational torque tool only.
- Do not use a hook spanner that shows stress cracks at the arm-hook junction — this joint is the highest-stress point.
